DY Patil Stadium is mainly used for cricket and football matches. DY Patil Stadium is the home ground for Mumbai Indians and Mumbai City FC football team of the Indian Super League. It hosted IPL 2008 & IPL 2010 final, In 2010, the stadium hosted 6 matches including the final, semi-final, 3rd place playoff, and Opening match also. Board Of Control For Cricket In India(BCCI) has announced four venues for IPL 2022, DY Patil Stadium is one of them, three others are Wankhede Stadium, MCA Stadium, and Brabourne Stadium.
